I continue my discussion about the brillant money-making strategies that many tv stations have. Upon seeing how popular our Arashi is - really, it's not hard to miss, with them making news every other days on Oricons and Con reports - the brilliant FujiTV decided, "I must get my share of the cake!". And I'm thankful for that, just that with so all five of them in one drama, where will the spotlight fall? Who will be the lead and who will take the supporting role? For it's quite difficult to give everyone an equal part. It being a special drama, I suppose it'll be a short one? *shrugs* My bet is, Nino and Ohno/Jun as lead and the rest as supports. Whatever the case, this is something I will definitely watch. Oh the goodness of all five boys squeezed into one small tvbox.
Finally my Park Yongha and Yuzu albums and YOU magazine has arrived. Had wanted to order the first two at a later date but since I ordered YOU, might as well order the albums too to save the per shipment charges. YAY I so missed Yongha's voice. Gotta listen to it soon! But first, let me type this post to let out what I feel about the dorama Atashinchi no Danshi (AND). Beware of massive fangirling because the dorama really is an
イケメン✿パラダイス
Before I start, I must apologise for the volume of pictures and spoilers!!! Gomen ne! (Most pics from Fujitv)
Boasting the same directors, production team, and of course lead actress, AND is yet another Hanakimi, only better, in my POV. Although there're much fewer guys, I liked them much more here! (well, excluding Toma and Shun of course)
So, introducing the 6 sons of the Ohkura family:
長男の風
The eldest son, Ohkura Fuu, is acted by Kaname Jun! I got introduced to him during Tantei Gakuen Q where I found him to be totally ikemen, and then saw him again in Ryusei no Kizuna where his dumb dumb, silly character got on my nerves a bit. But I really liked him here. Although he didn't get to stretch his acting too much here, he added some kind of stability to the remaining cast which comprised young (looking) actors. Btw, I loved his hair here.
Oh and there was a scene where Chisato (Maki) had to embroider the guys' names on wristbands. She made a mess of it and caused Fuu's (風) to become Arashi! (嵐) I was laughing like mad there.
次男の猛
As his name suggests, the second eldest, Ohkura Takeru has a fearsome face. He's still in a biker's gang at 27! However, more often than not we'll see a silly grin on his face. He's the super optimistic kind that lightens up the moods either with his silly comments or his nonsensical arguments with his siblings. Well, he's not an ikemen but he is fun to watch!
三男の翔
OMG! Do you recognise him? Takumi from Honey and Clover! My favourite character in the dorama, after Toma! I was soooo happy to see him in AND! And I'm glad he had a meaty role. And to make things better, he's called Sho in AND! He was like a big brother in the dorama, the quiet one that observes fellow siblings and decides how to act based on their mood. You can tell that he was on very close terms with Takeru because he only picks on him for quarrels. And yes, the quarrels were very entertaining!
四男の優
Ohkura Masaru, the fourth son, is a comical character, just from his appearance alone. He's acted by Yamamoto Yusuke, the Taiki guy from Hanakimi. Remember remember? He can communicate with ghosts, and always does so putting both hands up. The funny thing is, during the last episode, where he was shown doing a photoshoot, he did that same pose!! Yes, he's a model in AND. A girly model who wears green eye shadow, paints his nails in many colours, and is afraid of females. O.O Even from this, you can tell how funny this character is ne. OMG yet another one of my favourite characters from Hanakimi! Was so happy to find him here too! This time round, he's a much funnier character! Totally gay!
Thing is, Masaru can be written as 潤 as well yo!! Hidden arashi fan? haha...you'll get why if you see the following name...
五男の智
Not Satoshi, but Satoru, Ohkura Satoru, the fifth son. I thought he looked familiar, but was only when I read his profile in the magazine I bought (How can I not when the mag had my 3 favs from this dorama on cover!?) that I realised he acted as Hiro in Koizora dorama! Nonetheless, I'm still not going to watch that dorama. Oh, he acts as a genuis magician. His magic is really magic coz he made an attacker's sword disappear just by covering it with a piece of cloth. =.= That's quite impossible right? Magic is but a trick...that needs coordination. But oh well, he's quite cute too. Surprisingly, although he looks younger than Yusuke above, they're of the same age! Both born '88!
I totally totally enjoyed the scenes he had with Masaru. Especially those where they got jealous of each other for getting close/intimate with Chisato. XP There was one where Chisato was so grateful to Masaru for helping her out, she hugged him. Masaru looked like he could fly while Satoru was fuming! And there was one where Takeru covered himself over Chisato to protect her...when Satoru saw that, he totally kicked Takeru's ass. XP Super funny, how they get jealous.
六男の明
Lastly, we have Ohkura Akira. He is sooo kawaii!! May he grow up to be an ikemen too haha!
So, the dorama is about 6 guys and 1 girl, a family themed dorama which surprised me by including bits of romance into the plot. Can you guess who and who? Shall tell you later!
Basically, this dorama is a comedy with manga-like exaggerations filling more sensible and logical plots. If you liked hanakimi, I think you will enjoy this too. I mean, they share the same ridiculous costumes.
And of course impossible plots for example these...
Masaru was made to think that the voice changing gadget could reveal the true feelings of the person the gadget is used against. So he used it against Chisato. Chisato had recorded something in it beforehand, with the aim to encourage Masaru by letting him think that his first crush no longer disliked him. "I like you the way you are," he heard, and with that, fell for Chisato. =.=
Masaru got cured of his phobia of females because of Chisato and proved it when he managed to catch Chisato when she fell. The start of a romance!
Since when did Takeru become trained in conducting music?! In that coat no less!
To get them all to eat together, Chisato used super glue to stick them to their chairs. Of course, it ended with hopping chairs, non-stop quarreling and funny expressions.
When choosing the family head, Takeru and Sho had visions of what the official attire would be if they were choosen.
Takeru: Biker gang's coats!
Sho: Silky satin!
Lol Masaru managed to persuade his rival in love to practice with him how to confess to the girl they like! "あなたのことが好き!" "私も!" And then they hug and got misunderstood by Chisato who accidentally barged into the sauna room.
More sauna room!
This time round, the guys decide to have breakfast before they change into their clothes...Poor Chisato tried in vain to get them to change first. Well, any Ohkura family gathering cannot be complete without bickering....and so, we have...
A kyaaing moment! This happened after the accidental kiss mentioned below. =)
Speaking of the sauna room, there are ALOT of scenes in this room. And when you go for sauna, you go in almost naked. EYECANDY! Lol..
Look at Yusuke's abs man!! Just nice!!!!! It's a pity that Osamu's abs are not really well-defined, as is normal with most Jap actors. Lean and lanky seems to be the trend.
Lol Look at Masaru's pose. =D
But out of all the impossible scenes, the one I love most most most is the one in ep 7, and then ep 8. The impossible kiss! ・:*:・(*/////∇/////*)・:*:・ I got the caps from here.
It all started with this guy here, who has the habit of sleeping at 9pm sharp everyday, regardless of the situation...
One fateful night, the clock struck 9 and he collapsed. Both Sho and Chisato rushed forward to catch him.
They ended up in this position, and looked at each other awkwardly.
Of course, we need a catalyst for the impossible to happen. Someone accidentally bumped into Sho from behind...
And so it happened...
Look at the frown on his face!
The awkward position...
Masaru is horrified! In typical gayish style.
And so is Satoru. He looks like he wants to kill Sho.
Another day, while looking for the electricity breaker, Chisato and Sho ended up in Satoru's room. He apologised for the previous kiss and commented how strange it was that he seemed to always have 'happenings' around her. True enough, another happening occured shortly after! Sho was telling Chisato about his past. When he realised how much he was sharing with her, he blamed it on the full moon. Chisato had a look of concern and sho started teasing her, asking if she had fallen for him. And then, the next thing we know, he tripped and fell towards her.
The next day, Chisato did something that touched Sho greatly and he went to look for her at the garden outside. Thanking her, he suddenly grabbed her shoulders.
"Is this another happening?" she asked.
"No."
"Oh then it must be because of the full moon."
"It's not full moon tonight."
And then he hugged her!
For a few seconds before her pushed him away...
But will he give up?
NO!
KYAAAAA
But, it ended just like that. Even in the final episode, we were teased a great deal.
Sho approached Chisato after everything was resolved. And so we thought that he would finally confess, because he is such a daring guy, given what he did earlier. But no, he didn't want to break his record of 27 consecutive successful confessions. And when he left, Chisato said, "But it would have been 28 consecutive success..."
And then, everyone left the house. I was so sad to see them leave! But watch on and we find everyone returning to the house, either because the plan to leave for another life didn't work out or because it plan was never in the first place to leave permanently! ^_^ And when Sho returned, he told Chisato he had something important to tell her later on. XP I'm hoping for an SP (well, for jdoramas there's little chances of a sequal, but more for a SP ne!) coz alot things weren't nicely resolved. Most of the guys' pasts were not really resolved yet! Like what Osamu said in the interview, there's so muuch they can explore because this is an original story!
Last few caps!
Look at that goofy smile!
Love Sho's dressing, esp with the checkered shirt tied around his waist. My personal fav! Oh Jun did that before!
The nails!
Taiki from HanakimI!
Oh did I say I liked his hair?
I had thought that Kaname Jun was the main male lead amongst all the sons, but looking at this Cast page from Fujitv, it seems like Mukai Osamu is, followed by Yamamoto Yusuke. Happy happy! I was so worried that if there was any romance to come out of AND, it would be between Kaname and Maki. PHEW!
Lastly, here are links to good episode reviews and summaries! The last few eps come with witty commentaries!
ep 1 || ep 2 || ep 3 || ep 4 || ep 5 || ep 6 || ep 7 || ep 8 || ep 9 || ep 10 || ep 11
The icing on the cake, from here:
One of the most romantic kiss + leadup in jdoramas...Who said this was a family drama? XP
Finally, I see Maou on sale in PohKim. I've never been much of a fan of TS and I usually get my k/jdrama fix from PK instead. I saw Maou out in TS like, 2 months ago but I held out for PK and finally, I saw it on Tues!
So, I started on it last night, after the Hanakimi SP. Btw, the SP was chooooh kawaii. I got reminded of how much I miss the craziness on hanakimi. And Sano (Shun) looks so darn hot in cropped, black hair. XP Yoma as usual, was chooh kawaii and goofy. XP
And so, more Toma in Maou. MY GOSH. It's so so so good and like what everyone had been saying, Ohno looks so scary as Maou...first dorama yet so convincing and...his looks (maybe it was coupled with the lighting and the camera angles) gave me goosebumps. I cried quite a bit from the second half onwards and the ending was really sad. Very good dorama...haven't seen a suspense one for a long time....It had been the romance/comical ones which caught my eye, when it comes to jdorama.
Ohno, daisuki! Demo....your new dorama...is sooo different from this one ne. I think it suits you but I'm so gonna miss coOl Ohno - a rare sight.
I was surfing around Youtube and found these few fanmade videos for Zettai Kareshi. They're pretty good so take a look if you're free!
=( I tried to use vixy.net to rip these vids into avi. so I can keep them (yes, I love to keep vids so I can see them anywhere, anytime!) but somehow I could only rip the vid and not their accompanying audio. Can some kind soul help? Any form of help would be greatly appreciated!!!
Night's Absolute Love For Riko
All the (bitter)sweet moments in this touching video, a trailer of some sort.
I Need a Hero (Zettai Kareshi)
Night, Riiko's knight in bronze armour! Everyone needs a hero like him - for protection or just for laughs. =D
Best moments of Zettai Kareshi
Raw footages from different episodes put together into on video.
今、天城ナイトみたいなロボットが欲しい!!!!
I'm like super duper urber tired right now, with a slight headache and neckache. =/ Maybe it's because I've been chiong-ing tv dramas lately. Maybe it's because I slept at 4am last night. Maybe it's because I woke up at 8.30am this morning. Maybe it's because I've been out since 10am, till now. Maybe, maybe...
Whatever it is, I'm tired. And I want a robot like Night! Who can massage in - I forgot - 28 different patterns.
I just finished Zettai Kareshi last night and as a result of me crying so much during the last episode, my eyes are slightly puffy today. I really like this dorama and how it slowly unfolds and develops. From Riiko finding the very presence of Night irksome, to her getting used to having him around and making her embarrassed everytime, to her strting to appreciate the things he does for her, to her starting to care about hm, and lastly, to her liking him.
Everything was nicely paced. Not too hasty, yet not too draggy. There was ample time for us to slowly like this couple. Initially, I didn't really like this couple too much. As in, it's odd to have a girl fall for a robot; well, the robot is drop-dead gorgeous and hot and well-built and tall and caring but....human X robot? It's almost as wrong as...I don't know...
But slowly, it was obvious that although Night isn't human, he is human enough to really like Riiko and to do things that go beyond (and sometimes even against) what he was programmed to do so.
At that instant, I grew to like the couple. Although it was still odd how a robot (pieces of metal put together) can develop his own thinking and personality, it was still as sweet. As the dorama says, "Ths is just a work of fiction". I think it was also when Riiko was told that Night had been acting on his own will that she realised everything Night did for her was indeed out of love for her, and not just because he was programmed to do so - that, touched her and she realised she liked him too.
Overall, the dorama's a comedy. I laughed so much at Night's ridiculous acts and speech, at the amazing things Night could do as a robot...so much. And then I cried so much at the last episode.
I dislike the ending. However, I think this is the best ending, probably. Ironic eh? Because I can't think of other endings to this. For sure it'll be impossible (not matter how cute the couple is) for them two to live together forever because the maintenance fees for Night will get more expensive as his computer hardware ages plus they can't have children or anything! LOL... What other ending can there be? Hene, although I dislike the ending, I accept it. At least it gives us room to imagine. Maybe one day, Namikiri-san will find a way to repair Night and he'll come back to life. XP
I haven't read the manga so I don't know if the manga ended the same way..aniwaes, I'm borrowing the manga set from Jolie yay!!!
It has been a while since I last saw Mokomichi (last seen on Gokusen 2 and Rondo) but he is just as hot as before. I don't usually see such tall Jap guys so he does stand out from the rest.
Talking about Goksen, I've bought Gokusen 3 and watchd 3 eps of it. So far so good...Although I still find the usual elements of Gokusen in this dorama, somehow, this one feels different. Refreshing. Similar in a more original way. Plus, I adore Haruma's hair man!!!
And lastly, to share a pic from a local mag:
When I first glanced a this pic, I found the girl on the top right quite pretty, but on reading the accompanying paragraph, I was shocked. 'She' is actually Shun yo!!!!! ありえないっつうの~~~~~!!!
btw, des anyone have the mp3 for Ayaka's Okaeri? It's the theme song to Zettai Kareshi and it's a beautiful song ne!
I promise this will be the last post on this dorama. =)
タイヨウのうた by Moon Child
タイヨウのうた by Sawakiri Erika
You would definitely appreciate the song much more after watching the dorama because the lyrics to this song (as well as the lyrics to Amane Kaoru's other song Stay With Me) echoes Kaoru's relationship development with Kouji.
Here are the lyrics, from here.
震えている私の手に 初めて君が触れて
優しい気持ち 暖かさに やっと気付いたんだ
閉ざした窓開ければ 新しい風が吹いた
furuete iru watashi no te ni hajimete kimi ga furete
yasashii kimochi atataka sa ni yatto kizuitanda
tozashita mado akereba atarashii kaze ga fuita
Having touched my quivering hands for the first time
I've finally became aware of your warmth and gentle feeling
If the tightly shut window were opened, a new wind would blow
見える世界は輝き出した
向日葵揺れる 太陽の下で
感じていた 風を 日々を…
waratte naite kimi to deaete
mieru sekai wa kagayaki dashita

smiling, crying, meeting you by chance
The world I could see was radiant
A sunflower swaying beneath the sun
Having felt the breeze, every day...

Beliefs, hesitation, and standing still, all this
Me, living here now, might be the answer
Just like adding color to monochrome days

How much can we love?
We can love, right?
If you are here, only us two...

YAY! I'm at my gm's place now so I can use her comp to update woot! =)
I was watching tv last night when mokmok surprised me by calling all the way from Australia! Thankies dear!!! She asked me this question which a friend of hers posed to her.
What's your purpose on earth?
I have no idea, actually. And I don't think there's a fixed answer. All of us have different purposes, and our purposes change every now and then as we experience life and change our priorities and outlook in life. Well, coincidentally, the tv dorama i was watching then kind of posed a similar question.
I was watching タイヨウのうた (Taiyou no Uta//Song of the Sun). Mokmok: You like watching such shows about death.多分な。。。=]
LOADS OF CAPS & SPOILERS AHEAD.
I've finally watched this dorama. When I heard of this dorama and that Sawajiri Erika is the female lead, I became really interested in it and was waiting impatiently for th dvd to hit local stores. However, during the waiting period, negative news/tabloids about Erika appeared now and then and that caused my interest in the dorama to wane...till a week ago.
The reason behind my rekindled interest in this dorama is this guy:
Yamada Takayuki 山田孝之
DOB: 1983-Oct-20 (25 years old)
Height: 169cm
Has a son with an ex-gf, 3 years old
I was really shocked when I read that he has a son. He's only 25 years old! Amazing ne!
I first saw him in Water Boys where he was just one of the many cute guys. (woah, that was very long ago!) He didn't really leave much of an impression on me other than his being cute =P
Then, over a year ago, I caught him on tv again, this time in 世界の中心で、愛を叫ぶ // Crying Out Love, In The Center Of The World (caps from here). I wasn't really interested in it initially because by then, Takayuki's face had lost its presence in my brain and I wasn't really a fan of Ayase. The only reason I watched it was because I quite enjoyed the movie version.
And then, Takayuki wowed me again with his charisma! It was after this dorama that I recalled why I liked him in Water Boys - his dorky expression (see top right picture in the Water Boys picture). It's so...non-star and that makes him look like the regular guy next door. カワイイじゃん!His acting is natural so his slow-witted personality on-screen doesn't make me feel irritated. It was endearing instead. However, the ill-fated Takayuki didn't stay with me for long. Before long, I got swept off my feet by Jun's Doumyouji-sama and Shin-chan. So Takayuki's image disappeared from my limited storage.
And now, just last week, I saw him again! I was getting really bored so I went to the vcd shop to buy myself some dvds - I left the shop with more than 5 dvds (movies/doramas) and CROWS ZERO was one of them.
I bought Crows Zero because of Shun. However, I was totally not watching Shun when he appeared. I was thinking of Takayuki. o.O He wasn't actually the main lead and for much of the middle of the movie, he wasn't there at all. However, I was hoping he would come out soon every time Shun's on the screen. It's amazing how I took to him right away despite me not having seen him for so long. Yappari he's my favourite Jap male actor ne! (He made it to the top after Sekai no chuushin de) In fact, I was quite torn between who to root for - Shun or Takayuki - during the final 'battle'. All I know is that, when Takayuki lost, I felt sad. Hopefully they will iron out their differences and become friends in the sequel.
After Crows Zero, I went to watch そのときは彼によろしく. I had bought it simply because Takayuki is in it. I wasn't really looking forward to this movie because the story sypnosis I read from online etc sounded odd and didn't manage to grab my attention. But well, since it was a "Buy 2 get 1 free" promotion, I bought this, together with ただ、君を愛してる // Heavenly Forest and コナン // Detective Conan 2007. So it was purely by chance and by fate that there wasn't something else I wanted and just had to buy SonoKare.
Right after Crows Zero, SonoKare slapped more Takayuki onto my face. Again, he was in the role of a slow-witted guy. He's always doing such roles (for the few doramas/movies I've seen him in) but I totally don't mind because he is really good at it. If you ever ask me to suggest a guy to lead in such a role/story, I will definitely vote him. He's good and convincing!
The thing with Takayuki is that every single time he makes an appearance before me, he wins me over. However, unlike many others, he doesn't make me go gaga. I think it has to do with the types of roles he takes on. They're usually sobering, non-idol-like kinds...which I absolutely buy and totally adore. So, while the strong dosage of Takayuki lingered in my mind yesterday when I stepped into Poh Kim, that didn't give me any impulse to buy anything with him in it. However, there was a sad draught of good Jdoramas (I'm so waiting for Maou and Zettai Kareshi!) so I ended up buying タイヨウのうた // Song of The Sun. The thing is, remember I said in the start that Erika's negative image kind of made me turn away from the dorama? Somehow, time made that pale and instead, Takayuki's presence made me buy it.
Of course, there were many points where I was sceptical about the Erika's role as someone so nice, friendly, strong and upbeat about life. However, I quickly shook those doubts away. In the end, I finished the show tearing and feeling touched.
This dorama isn't as sad as 1LOT...there are parallels to be drawn, such as the incurable illness, a dorky guy who stands by the side of the female lead, the female leads losing physio-motor abilities etc etc...However, I think the two are quite different.
1LOT made me cry more out of sympathy. It was heartwrenching to see a healthy and sunshiney girl like Aya slowly losing everything she has...and how God can continue devestating her in spite of her trying to stay strong. In contrast, タイヨウのうた made me cry more because of Kaoru's strength and beliefs. I admire her having a clear direction in life. I was touched by her struggles between her desire to love Kouji and her fear that loving will make her weak; between discarding her dream to live and disregarding her life to dream. Like what someone said in one of the episodes, the reason why everyone loves Kaoru is probably because of her strength.
タイヨウのうた was really an enjoyable show where I laughed almost as much as I cried. So here I am with loads of screencaps, mainly from the opening theme and the trailers for each ep, since I'm lazy to go to each individual ep to get caps.
Our leads! If there is one thing I want to complain, it'd be Takayuki's sideburns in the dorama. It's super long, like down the entire length of his cheeks! Go look out for them in the rest of the caps!
I was watching the BTS clips and Takayuki was really good at shooting. He made a hit with every shot he took! It was Erika's first time and he taught her how to aim at the targets.
Kouji's (Takayuki's character's name in the dorama) group of friends.
Yes, he shows this look everytime, in every show I've watched him in. The blur look which totally swept me away. <3
こんな顔が大好き!
The band MOON CHILD. Kouji came up with this name saying that that is a nick for XP patients...I think it's a pretty good name ne.
And below, my fav members of the band! Hamada Gaku's the bottom one. He's short but cute! I really liked him in here, much more than I did watching him in Proposal Daisakusen!
Top: Kaname Jun. I first came across him in Tantei Gakuen Q and he really stood out amongst all the kids. He did quite well in this dorama too...I kind of disliked his over-pragmatic ways of doing stuff but later, he became a nicer person and we started to understand how even he is sometimes helpless in how things are run.
Bottom: No idea who he is but he is darn funny. I found myself either laughing or chuckling whenever he appears. His facial expressions and his body movements really tickles the funny bone! He add comic relief to the whole dorama.
Ok those were from the opening theme song. Following this we have screencaps from trailers to each episode!
After a bad start (Kouji pissed Kaoru off with his laidback attitude towards life, saying that "He doesn't mind dying tomorrow", to which Kaoru replied asking "Why not just die right away, since the sea is right before them." That pissed Kouji off and in turn, he continued to anger Kouru by critisizing her 'pretence' of being enthusiastic since she claimed to want to be a singer but only sings others singers' songs), Kouji started to open up to Kaoru.
Kaoru and Kouji plotted a 'coincidental meeting' at the theme park so that their best friends Misaki and Ryusuke can have a chance to patch up. So it was a date of some sort. I love the small scene where Kouji's friend Yuta told Kaoru that it was the first time he saw Kouji enjoying talking to a female. I thought that hinted at some advancement in their relationship. However, Kaoru's happiness was later crushed when Yuta told her about a mysterious girl who went to look for Kouji one night.
Of course, she managed to clarify things with Kouji when the gang went to ride on the ferris wheel. Her joy didn't last long though. Due to an extremely odd and rather hilarious reason, the two of them were stuck in one of the ferris wheel cars in midair because no one realised they were still in the car.
It was only after this incident that the gang realised that Kaoru has XP. I think Erika did a rather good job in this scene where we could see her trying to hide her worries and anxiety from Kouji as the time to sunrise nears. When Kaoru finally explained her illness to Kouji and showed signs that she wanted to just give up, Kouji scolded her for having such thoughts. He used words that Kaoru had previously used on him to spur him out of his laidback outlook in life. So, he remembers her word eh? =)
With the truth of her illness made known to Kouji, Kaoru decides to end her dream of being a singer and to end her love for Kouji. I really like this part where they showed Kaoru struggling with herself, with her conflicting desires.
And on the other side, Kouji had a tough time thinking about his feelings. Did he like her? Was he willing to stay by her side?
He finally decides to attend Kaoru's birthday party (It was kind of sad when her dad said that he should go because it may just well be her last birthday. Of course we later know that it was. T.T) He sewed a UV-protection suit for her but was rejected by Kaoru.
When he returned to the shop where they worked and stayed at, dejected, Yuta told him it was better that way since she'll die anytime (he had read up on XP) and it better not to get so close to her anymore. When Yuta said, "Are you sure you have the courage to watch her die?" Kouji really blew up and the two got into a fight. I think this fight really spoke volumes about how Kouji thought of Kaoru.
He later sneaked out to the garden where Kaoru used to sing at and there, he listened to her cd for the first time.
When Asami (his childhood sweetheart/first love) went to look for him, Kouji refused to listen to her. However, when she mentioned Kaoru's name, he gave in. He realised that Kudou (Kaname Jun's character) was not interested in helping Kaoru debut and only wanted to get her to help as a ghost writer to write songs for Asami.
Kouji didn't want Kaoru to get hurt so he went to beg Kudou to give her a chance as a singer. He even got onto his knees yo! However, it was all but fruitful.
He had no choice but to tell Kaoru the truth. To his surprise, Kaoru didn't get too upset. She was stronger than he thought. Kaoru probed about how Kouji found out about it and Kouji finally told her about Asami.
Kaoru then happily said that two good things happened to her that day.
1. Kouji went all the way to Tokyo for her sake.
2. Kouji told her of a secret (that he knew Asami from before) that he had never told anyone about before.
And after that, she went home and wrote a new song called タイヨウのうた. When the melody was finished, she asked Kouji out to be her audience, the first to hear her new song.
She was playing the guitar and singing to the melody while Kouji was sitting in front of her, enjoying the song. However, her left had suddenly lost strength. Kaoru made an excuse and left Kouji. After a checkup at her doctor's, she realised that she can never play the guitar again because her left hand had lost its strength, one of the syndromes of XP.
Dejected and lost, she ran away. With just a few hours to dawn, everyone ran around town to look for her. They each had one of the UV-protection suit with them just in case.
Of course, Kouji has to be the one who finds her ne?
He finds her by the sea and despite him trying to console her, she had lost all hope. To her, she lived her life to fulfil her dream of becoming a singer. With that dream being taken away from her, she couldn't find any reason to live for anymore. Hence, she grabbed her guitar and made a dash for the choppy sea. Kouji chased after her and pulled her back, refusing to let her go.
When Kaoru asked why,
Kouji finally, for the first time, clearly stated his feelings for her.
And although he had once said that he will not play the guitar again, he did so, for her sake. He will become her guitar, he said.
Yuta and the rest saw Kouji playing the guitar at the park and felt that he looked really sauve playing the guitar. When they returned, they decided to form a band and take part in the Band Fest!
I think it's amazing that the casts really went to learn how to play those instruments just for this dorama. Although they may not look too polished, I appreciate their efforts!
Two weeks later, Kouji asked Kaoru out on a date. She had expressed a wish to look at the moon from the nearby light tower and Kouji wanted to fulfil that wish of hers.
Unfortunately, one of Kouji's acquaintance from his past spotted Kouji and decided to make trouble for him. They sneaked up on Kaoru while she was waiting at the tower and took her to the nearby park.
They tried to rape her but fortunately, Yuta and gang were passing by and heard her screams. They rushed over to help but were beaten up by the baddies. Kaoru was cornered by one of the baddies and it seemed as if she was going to fall into his clutches when Kouji appeared! Kouji was no match for him though...but luckily for them, a policeman came by and chased the baddies away.
The cap above doesn't do that shot justice. In the actual thing, a single teardrop rolled down his cheek as he looked at the frightened Kaoru. He didn't say a word. I felt that his expression touched much more than any words could ever do so.
What I felt was odd was that Kaoru didn't seem as frightened as I expected a girl to be after being nearly raped. o.O
In fact, Kouji seemed much more affected by it...
Kaoru probed into Kouji's past and asked him if he still thinks of Asami. At that point, Kouji asked her if she trusted him anymore. He then suggested that he is not suitable for her.
Kaoru, being such an outspoken and affirmative girl, told Kouji that she wants to be with him forever.
The following day, Kaoru's best friend Misaki went to confront Kouji and gave him a slap for forcing Kaoru to leave him the night before by using her illness - she can't be in the sun and hence had to leave Kouji when dawn approached although she still had much to talk to him about.
After that, Kouji left and disappeared.
Kouji decides to run away with Asami.
A few days before that fateful day (which was the same day as the Band Fest), he spotted Kaoru in the town where he escaped to.
Kaoru had went to the bento factory where she knew Kouji had previously worked in. From there, she found out the town where Kouji lived in before he moved into the factory's hostel. She then went to look for him there by giving out flyers with his picture printed on them.
Kouji was at a convenience store buying an onigiri when he heard other shoppers talking about a girl wearing a pink suit standing in the sun. Instinctively, he ran out of the store and went to search for the said girl. It was Kaoru.
When they finally met, Kaoru didn't ask him to return. She simply told him that everyone was practising hard for the fest. She said that he was very fortunate to have so many people caring for him and so he should return that favour to them.
Kouji asked her why she wasn't mad at him for practically dumping her and she told him that she had ran away from him once so with him doing the same this time round, they were quits. I really think this scene is very true to Kaoru's strong character. She believed in Kouji and she showed that through her actions.
Her trust was not wasted because Kouji returned, just in time for the Band Fest.
That scene had raindrops falling and I thought that the director added that just for special effects. However, after watching the BTS clips, I realised that that raindrops were unintended and it actually rained quite heavily that day.
When Asami learns that Kudou wants to sign Moon Child up, she went to beg Kaoru to give up Kouji and not take both music and Kouji away from her. She questioned Kaoru's ability to give Kouji happiness since Kaoru's most probably going to die within the next few years.
I'm glad that unlike typical Korean soap dramas, our Kaoru here told Asami that it was precisely because she will not be there for him in 10 years time that she has to give him 100 years worth of love right now. =)
Later, when news of Kudou's intentions to sign them up reached the ears of Yuta and gang, they got mad at Kaoru for rejecting the offer without even discussing it with them. Kouji stays by her side to give her comfort.
Kaoru finally decides to accept the offer.
Their happiness if short-lived because the media soon finds out (due to some evil scheme) that Kaoru has the incurable XP and she is in a love triangle with Kouji and the red hot Asami.
Upon learning this, Kouji rushes to Kaoru's house to check up on her.
Kudou decides that Moon Child was ruined by all these scandals and wants to discharge their contract. The guys went to his office to plead with him. However, even Kudou couldn't do anything about it.
When they went back to their town, Kouji phoned Kaoru to apologise for not being able to change anything. Instead of being disappointed, Kaoru tries to encourage Kouji by telling him that as long as their persist, their dream will not die; it is something that no one can snatch away from them. Hence, they should just view this as a chance missed but not give up.
Just as you think that it'll all die down soon, Kouji returns to the shop to see a crowd of people swarming the shop - the reporters had found out where he lived in! While trying to break free from the reporters, one of them got injured and he claimed that Kouji did that, causing him to get brought away by the police.
Upon hearing that, Kaoru dashes out of the house without her protective suit, in broad daylight. =(
What for? I don't get.
Fast forward to the last ep where we have Asami's concert where Moon Child makes their debut as a guest performer.
Kaoru thanks each member for helping her fulfil her dream....
but after that, she burst into coughing fits. That hinted at a respiratory problem. That was a fatal syndrome for her and the doctor had wanted her to undergo sugery to remove her vocal chords to prevent that problem from reoccuring. However, that would mean that she won't be able to sing anymore. It was a tough choice for her but she decided that rather than to give up her dream to live, she wants to pursue her dreams, even if her life was at stake.
She once asked Kouji what was the right choice to make. Kouji replied that he doesn't know, although he know the choice which will leave her with no regrets. I like this part of the script! It has deeper meanings than to have Kouji tell her a bunch of theories (aka long grandmom stories). In fact, Kouji said nothing about what she should do. Even after Kaoru made her choice, he didn't comment on it. He chose to just stay by her and stand by her choice, although I thought I saw a tinge of sadness when Kaoru decided not to undergo the surgery. Yet, he said nothing. I so love his character yo!
<<< From watching her perform
To performing with her >>>
Finally, she's under the sun of the stage, called 'Spotlight'.
She's so close to fulfilling her dreams...
Will her dreams be fulfilled, finally?
Go watch it and I guarantee you will be touched by the scene and by what Kouji said...I love how the sriptwriters always give Kouji lines that I'd never expect someone in his shoes to say and how those lines echo his personality.
And also, ありがとう instead of 愛してる. That makes it more special ne.
Don't get what I mean? GO WATCH IT!

============================================================
Gomen, neighbours, for such a long, graphics-intensive post! I wonder if anyone even bothered reading. =X
I reckon this is the longest post I've ever typed for a dorama. =/ I really like this dorama, but it doesn't make me doki doki and gaga...like tw idol dramas/HYD etc do....it's enjoyable on another level.
I guess I do like 純情なラブストーリー ne! XP They won't happen in rl but sometimes, it's good to believe in the pure!
Aniwaes, I was just reading up on Takayuki when I realised that he's the guy in Densha Otoko. o.O MY GOSH...I never realised. I keep seeing him in vcd shops but because I liked neither the female lead (too old) nor the male lead (too ugly) and that I 'didn't' know them, I never bothered to have a second look. But...the guy's Takayuki! They did a darn good job at transforming him into an otaku!
So, one last question:
What's your purpose on earth?
FROM BIG SCREEN
TO SMALL SCREEN
Before you jump for joy and throw your arms into the air, finish reading the news article taken from here.
TBS has announced that it is producing a television drama based on "Koizora," the mobile phone novel that became a hit movie last year. The film starred Yui Aragaki and Haruma Miura, and both saw their popularity rise after the movie took in 3.9 billion yen from more than 3.1 million admissions.
The drama will feature an entirely new cast, with auditions being held for both Aragaki's and Miura's roles. Producers are said to be seeking unknown actors, particularly a girl who can be cultivated into becoming "the next Gakky (a nickname for Aragaki)." The cast is expected to be finalized by mid-June so that filming can begin for a summer broadcast. TBS will be airing the drama in its recently revamped Saturday 8:00pm time slot, which currently is the home of the baseball drama "ROOKIES."
Although the cast will be new, the production team is being carried over from the film, giving them another shot at the story. The team includes Natsuki Imai as director, Mutsuki Watanabe as screenwriter, and Shin Kono doing music.
I was so excited reading the title of this news articles..but when I read that the cast will be changed, I got really disappointed. For me, the koizora movie had had such an impact on me that I pictured Haruma, Aragaki and Keisuke even as I read the original novel. Now that they're doing a dorama version, as I've been praying hard for since koizora the movie, I thought they should use the same characters...
The movie omitted quite a lot of very touching scenes in the book and so in the dorama versio, I'm sure they can fit these scenes in to make the whole story more complete...It would be so great if they had used the original cast and allowed them to expand on their story in the movie. Plus, I really loved Haruma in white/bleached hair!!! And Aragaki really fitted the character of Mika very well...and Keisuke...of all the roles he played, I loved him most as Yuu in the movie.
WHY CHANGE????
Argh...there's a 60% chance I'll like the new cast, since I love the story and it will definitely affect my judgement...but there is no way they can match up to the original cast. Well, I'm sure the dorama will be a hit, as was the movie. So, whoever gets the role, they're in for something big.
金言, do you share my misery?
On a side-note, I'm now rewatching G2 (yes, I know I should be revising for Fri's test but...) because I really want to watch G3 but I don't watch a dorama until it has finished airing. I read that Haruma wears boots to school in G3. What the...*rolls eyes* Many claimed he resembles Shin a lot so I'll definitely watch it when it has finished its run!
I finally watched this. Honestly speaking, I don't really remember much of the dorama...either because I rushed through it as I usually did or because the dorama didn't really leave much of an impression on me. Hence, I put the SP on hold...It was only when I spotted the file in the whole bunch of files Angel saved in my HDD that I decided to give it a shot (I seriously need to get away from Kor..another test this Friday!).
I like the SP much more than the dorama. Ok, one thing I remember about the dorama is how I got irritated by the same old repetitive action YamaPi does everytime he goes back in time and says "Hallelujah Chance". Good thing it only happened once (I count it as once) in the SP.
I was really touched by Ken-zo's friend...Tsuru. His love for Eri is so straightforward, like what Ken said: simple yet touching.
I love the scenery at the beach...The colours of the evening sky was so beautiful...Hawaii. =) Looks like it's a good place to take a vacation at.
Some pictures, from various sites and google.
I've never thought much about Nagasawa Masami and I don't think I can even name her offhanded when shown her picture. But I really thought she looked very pretty in the SP. And yes, when I saw pictures of her in the wedding gown, I found her quite pretty too.
There was this scene in the SP where Mikio (acted by Hiraoka Yuta, whom I find really suave, even in BokuImo) told Ken that everything about their friendship had been coincidences: how they didn't expect themselves to remind such close friends years after they finished high school, how Ken had initially disliked almost everyone in their group now, how they got to know each other due to a series of coincidences. If their academic abilities differed by just a bit, they might be in different schools. If the guys hadn't joined the baseball club, they would be close. If Ken hadn't seen that homerun by a pro when he was young, he wouldn't have played baseball. If Mikio had been good in soccer, he wouldn't have played baseball...
Coincidences...or fate?
My Favourite scene/background in the SP
We don't get our "Hallelujah Chance" like Ken-zo does, so we've got to make sure every decision are truly what we want and every thing we choose not to do will not be a source of regret in the future. :) One thing I took away from プロポーズ大作戦 was that rather than regret and hope to change things in the past, it's best we live the moment and take things from there. There's no 'what-if's ; there is only 'what-now's.
I read from Jen's vox about Gokusen 3.
Without Shin.
Damn.
Maybe with some HSJ people. Demo, Yamada wouldn't be able to act as a High Sch student deshou?
I can't even find a (superficial) reason to watch.
Well, will have to wait for the cast to be confirmed first before I decide whether to give it a miss.
Since it doesn't have Shin, it had better have a good plot. (I would have played doube standards and accepted another similiar plot if they brought Shin back LOL)
[EDIT] I may still watch it, but with less zest, because I do miss Yankumi. I miss Shinkumi most, followed by Shin and then Yankumi. XP I missed Sawatari kyoutou too! His hair and expression, and his hidden concern for Yankumi. <3 Oh well, at least they're brining him and the Oedo clan back....
